A great excuse to go to Hawaii. The weather can be anything on race day - mild, hot, humid, rain, windy - but many have done their personal best there. Race starts an hour before sunrise so the heat is saved for the second half. Except for a little 120 ft hill around Diamond Head at mile 8 going out and 24 coming back, the course is relatively flat. It can be quite crowded in the first half with 20,000+ runners typically. Good aid stations every mile. The defizzed Coke works great. The rows and rows of showers just after the finish line really hit the spot to cool you down and wash the salt off.

After an exhaustive survey by a group of 60 runners, the best Mai-Tai's were at the Outrigger Reef Tower pool bar (only $1.75) or at the Honolulu Airport bar. Best food was at the Shore Bird in the Outrigger Reef where you cook your own entre or just pig out from the huge salad/veggie bar - good place to watch the sunset too.

Transportation is good on Da Bus so a car is not necessary to rent for the length of your stay on Oahu. There are good package day trips with transportation you can take or rent a car just for a day to do a loop around the island. No need to book sight seeing ahead, pick up a free copy of "This Week in Oahu" while you wait for your bags in the airport. There are lots of discount coupons and information in them. There are also reputable tourist info booths in most hotels that can help you. Be careful of all the street vendors handing out or trying to talk you into tours.
