South Pasadena Tiger Run 5K/10K

1st Saturday in December, South Pasadena High School, CA, 8:00 AM 5k, 8:30 10K Start.
App and info click on Tiger above.

One of the fastest 5K's in the area - great for a PR.
First 5K of the 10K is fast and flat streets. The second half has 2 "challenging hills". The first hill is after a left turn off of Monterey Road about mile 3.5 and goes for about a half mile or so it seems before dropping down into a valley. The second hill is after another left turn and tops out at mile 5. After that it is mostly down hill but there is one zig zagging steep narrow section which is called the snake trail that drops you down to the west side of the track/football field and the finish.

Lots of drawing prizes are raffled off just before the awards, but you have to know to get a raffle ticket at the finish. The drawing prizes were reported to be even better than the Turkey Trot. One of the sponsors - Senor Fish - sold big breakfast burritos in the finish area for $5. But if you waited to just before they shut down for the awards, you could get them for $1. Also for the grabbing were bagels, bananas and oranges.

Parking in the school lot off of Fremont at Bank St. fills up an hour before so get there earlier or take your chances on surrounding streets if you want to park close. They have a drop bag area in the finish area on the south side of the gym that you can leave clothes to change into after you finish if you dont want to go back to your car. 309 finished the 5K and 201 did the 10K in 2009. Results are on line on their web site if you want to compare in your age group. Remember that the 5K is slightly faster than the Turkey Trot, but the 10K is much slower with the two big hills.
