Saddleback Mountain Goat Trail Marathon

1Last Sunday in September, Cleveland National Forest, , 8:00 AM Start.
Rated Toughest Marathon in Southern California

Info and app: click on Saddleback above.

This is the middle segment of the San Juan Trail 50 Mile starting at the Blue Jay campground - top of the mountain range just north of Ortega Highway between Lake Elsinore and San Juan Capistrano. While the difficulty might seem to be the big drop from the top of the mountain down almost to the valley and back up the steep single track Holy Jim trail (2200 ft climb in 5 miles) to Bear Springs, those that have run it will tell you the fun really starts at mile 14.5 at the top of Holy Jim. Here the Main Divide jeep road goes up and down 500 ft at a time like a roller coaster for 8 miles. Defineately a challenge and a little tougher than Wild Wild West. Finish times are about equal to the High Desert 50K.
