4th of July Redondo Beach 5K / 10K

App and info: Click on 4th of July above.

2003 race according to Julie Miller:

Kick off your Fourth of July with a fun summertime race by the beach. Redondo Beach has a great Fourth of July 5/10K at 8 a.m. starting near the Redondo Beach Pier. The 5 K starts at 8:15 a.m. and the 10K starts at 8:30 a.m.
The 10K laps most of the 5K course twice. This is basically an out and back, along the ocean, with hills. The weather was a bit hot, sunny and sunny, but you get terrific coastal views of surfers riding waves, sandy beach, and palm trees. There's plenty of food at the end including Propel, bananas, and Santa Rosa plums.

This race is in a great area to begin, and to finish your Fourth of July. The start/finish line is in the heart of Redondo Beach, with plenty of places to eat, get coffee, and stroll around. If you want to make it a day, there's a parade, and later there are fireworks off of the Redondo Beach pier in the evening.

Tip: Bring quarters. There's plenty of street parking, but it's all metered. I parked at the big municipal lot at Catalina and F, right next to the finish. It's 2 quarters for 2 hours of parking. This race is only about a 45 minute drive from Pasadena -- a quick trip straight down the 110 South to Pacific Coast Highway (north) and take a left on Palos Verdes Blvd and a Right on Catalina.
